Do Hanso Ki Kahani Jatak Katha
In ancient times, there used to be a group of white swans in Mansarovar. The white swans spreading their shade like white clouds used to make the whole atmosphere reverberate by chirping in the calm water of Mansarovar.
Along with the group of white swans , two golden swans also lived in Mansarovar. Both the golden swans were larger in size and similar in appearance. He was polite, patient and virtuous. One of them was the king and one was the commander. The king's name was Dhritarashtra and the commander's name was Sumukh. All the swans were living happily under his umbrella.
The qualities of golden swans were praised till Devlok and Patallok. Devta Gana and Yaksha Gana also used to praise him. His discussion was far and wide even in the human world. One day the praise of golden swans reached the ears of the king of Varanasi and he became anxious to get those swans.
He asked his minister to get a beautiful lake made like Mansarovar in his state. That lake was covered with aquatic plants and lotus flowers like Padma, Kumud, Utpal, Tamaras, Kahlar, Pundrik, Saugandhik etc. The picturesque shade of the lake attracted fishes and aquatic birds and they came and settled there. The king made complete arrangements for his security, so that he could freely roam there without any fear.
Hemant season had started after the rainy season. One day both the golden swans of Mansarovar passed over Varanasi flying in the blue sky. There, listening to the beautiful shade of the lake built by the king and the chirping of the delightful water birds roaming freely there, they went down there with the desire to enjoy the pleasure of swimming in the clean water of the lake. Both of them spent the whole winter there. He returned to Mansarovar on the arrival of the rainy season.
Returning to Mansarovar, when he met a group of white swans, he told them the experience of the days spent in that artificial lake in Varanasi. He praised that lake so much that all the white swans became eager to go there. But, the king and the commander of the swans opposed him and said that the display of the expressions of birds and creatures is simple, they display all their inner feelings through their screams. But, it is impossible to know the inner feeling of human. They display expressions contrary to their inner feelings.
But, all the white swans were so eager to do water sports in the artificial lake of Varanasi that they did not listen to the king and the commander and kept on insisting. Ultimately, the king and the commander swans had to obey other swans. After the rainy season, they all left for the artificial lake of Varanasi.
When the king of Varanasi received the news of the arrival of the swans, he was extremely happy and sent a Nishad to that lake to fulfill his wish of catching the golden swans.
Nishad reached the lake and spread the trap. Unaware of his purpose, all the swans were roaming freely in the lake. Hansraj Yudhishthir got trapped in his trap. As soon as the trap got entangled, fulfilling the responsibility of the king, he warned other swans and ordered them to leave. All the white swans immediately flew away. But, Swami Bhakt Senapati Hans Sumukh remained there.
Hansraj Yudhishthir asked him to leave, but he refused to go while fulfilling his devotion. When Nishad reached to catch Hansraj, he was shocked to see two swans, because he had set a trap to catch one swan. When he asked the reason for this from the commander Hans, he said, "If I sacrifice my life in the service of my lord, it will be a matter of pride for me."
Hearing this, the heart of Nishad, who was following the path of violence against human welfare, changed and he freed both the swans.
The swans knew that if Nishad freed them, he would become the object of the king's wrath. That's why they did not go from there even on his request, but reached the king's court by sitting on both his shoulders. The king was surprised to see the swans that the king had sent Nishad to catch, coming sitting on Nishad's shoulders.
Nishad narrated the whole incident in front of the king, after hearing which the king had a change of heart. Instead of punishing Nishad, he rewarded and provided hospitality to both the swans in the palace. After staying as guests in the king's palace for a few days, both the swans returned to Mansarovar.
